in my experience, Waitrose management are not always great, my local store Horley is not terribly well run (my opinion only)

Asda to be fair have done some good things over the years, they used to offer IVF drugs at not for profit prices (they stopped a few years back)

The store he worked in is in the next village to ours.

Waitrose have treated him disgustingly. They said he couldn't do the full role, but they were quite happy to keep him on (while paying him sweet FA) doing what he could.

It was only when his Mum suggested he get paid for his work that they said he had to leave.

And they really showed themselves up after Asda offered him a paid job, they did a knee jerk reaction and offered him his job back, with pay.

Too little too late.

I'm going to write to the company and tell them how awfully they have treated this fella and that (not that they will give a hoot) I will never shop at Waitrose or John Lewis again.

You see, without all this media attention, the lad would have lost his job, no one would have known how badly he had been treated, and he wouldn't have got another job so quickly. The company only did what they did in the aftermath in order to try and save themselves.

Yeah, AFAICT, they stopped when Walmart was a majority shareholder. The Issa Brothers are now majority shareholders, Walmart are now a minority shareholder. But whatever the reason, they don't seem to do it any more.
