Not justified my a55

what a load of baloney

four IRA blokes hijack a lorry weld a machine gun on the tail gate shoot up
A police station and than get shot

Good riddance to bad rubbish imo
Tis the way our society seems to be going, more concern for those committing crime than for those who are victims of crime. This report, albeit in relation to something that occurred decades ago, reflects this changing attitude.

Yea, those poor rapists eh.

After reading the inquest summary, it looks like the correct decision based on the evidence available to the coroner. From a strictly legal point of view.

They had a Russian Dshk heavy machine gun (supplied by Col. Gaddafi) on the back of the lorry as well as assault rifles, also supplied by Gaddafi.
The Dshk used in the attack has been used to shoot down aircraft, so if you are facing known killers with firepower like that, what would you do.
In that type of situation there is no margin for error, a split second could make all the difference between neutralising the threat and your own people being killed.
In my opinion the SAS deserve a medal.

The getaway driver for the terrorists who was wounded in the incident was later awarded 75000 in damages against the ministry of defence, how sick is that.

yeah they should have just politely said excuse me old chap if that machine gun has cooled down enough after you have just attempted to murder countless people could you just hand it over we dont want you burning your hands .
What could have gone wrong with such a polite request

I understand why you think that. But if you read the summary of the inquest findings, the verdict does make sense.

it makes sense to someone sitting in a court room without a gun pointing at them that will blow a 6 inch hole in your body in the possession of someone who has just used it
IRA always said they were at war so they take the consequences

The gun was never pointed at anyone. Unarmed men were shot in the back whilst running way or lying injured on the floor. The findings are clear and logical.

Ever seeen Black Hawk Down?
A fine movie. (A documentary about the raid in Mogadishu talking to the soldiers who were there is on N. Flx)
Any road...there's a scene at the end of the film where the soldiers are running back to the safety of the Pakistan UN forces compound at the edge of the city, under constant sniper fire, where a woman runs towards them and picks up an Uzi - one of the soldiers cries, "don't do it, don't you do it," but she goes right ahead and aims the weapon at him, leaving him no choice but to shoot her down in self-defence.
The point is; once you pick up the gun you become a live target and subject to the rules of engagement, so don't complain when the fire gets too hot.

yep the soldiers must have had x ray eyes to be able to see that there was no one still hiding in the back of that lorry that would have opened up on them as they attempted to run after after attempred murderers
