i think they are both using each other in a sort off mutual way
they both know what can be said and the general lack off answer to the actual question gives both sides credence within there agenda

i dont think he is in genuine danger as i think he is playing the "in the middle game" where we think he is getting unusual privileged access and being fully neutral where as the ground rules will probably be set so both sides can spin to there advantage so he is an asset to both sides but in a independent irritating way rather than a threat

The press conference was apparently televised live. It would be interesting to know whether Steve's questions and the responses were fully transmitted.
