Part P - trying to follow the rules.....

Hi all,

Ive been following the whole development with the part P rules for some time with, I should say, some anoyance. Although I understand the need for testing and making sure that instalations are done correctly - I have a healthy respect for electricty after being electricuted at the age of 3 - but this Part P requirement basicaly kills / puts off most DIYers doing thire own work.

What I would like to know is whats the steps i need to take to get certified - in the long run this will be much cheaper for me than other methods (im only 25 so hopfully have many years of DIYing)

no real progress yet.
The LABC have a guy who may or may not inspect my work once complete. If he does, ho extra cost applies. If he decides not to I have to get a spark to inspect my work.

There angle is that without an inspection they cannot issue a completion certificate and the part p application is worthless.

No it's not - it's put you on the right side of the law.

If you notify via a Full Plans Submission they have to give you a Completion Certificate (provided they are happy that the work complies). If you notify via a Building Notice they are not obliged to provide a Completion Certificate.

Both of those situations apply to all controlled work, not just electrical installations.
