Peter Sullivan

38 years is pretty close to taking somebody’s life.

It’s impossible to contemplate

Poor chap will be so institutionalised, will he ever be able to cope

Let’s hope he has better luck than the sub post masters

In Transam's world he'd already be hung, drawn and forced to listen to The Archer's til expired from the relentless boredom of it all.

Seems like a confession was beaten out of him
Forced confessions were quite common back then.
That is why they have cameras in police interview rooms.
There should be an inquiry to find out why someone would admit to a murder they did not commit.

Said on R5L today that he was a "vulnerable person".

May be a polite way of saying he was not as.......capable.......

Open to suggestion, manipulation?

"Another crime solved ", and pats on the back all round.

The Peter Sullivan case isn't an isolated incident.
There was the case of the educationally subnormal bloke who 'confessed' to the murder of child, eventually new DNA evidence cleared him.
Back then , it was a case of innocent until proven guilty but what people didn't understand was that once you sign a confession , that principle is reversed, the onus is on the defence to prove that the confession was obtained through coercion, which was a very hard thing to do back in the 70's and 80's.

Somebody on LBC today said there will load of outstanding cases but the investigating board isn’t fit for purpose

Also, that the investigation board investigating was done by....... retired coppers.

"Marking their own homework."

Little wonder then, that "nothing to see, move along now" was / is the standard response.

And the case would never have been re-investigated. So he would be guilty for evermore.

Indeed, there are some fantastic charities that support victims of injustice. Unfortunately, they get swamped with those who are dishonest/guilty.

Three blokes from my old neighbourhood spent 11 years inside for a murder they didn't do.
