dry sand isn't very cohesive and tends to get blown about and away.. plus there are very few mountains nearby to get eroded to cover them, plus they're huge and made of stone and as said above, people keep digging them up.. the nearby towns etc have been covered though until fairly recently when people dug them back up..

Well, I for one, have actually been to the Pyramids in Egypt.
As fast as the sand is covering them up, Hardy men dressed like Indiana Jones are uncovering them again.
BTW Cairo especially the poorer parts are being covered up by the residents' garbage on a daily basis. In a couple of thousand years time, archaeologists of that time will probably be uncovering TV's, Video Players, CD's DVD's and wondering what they were. They'll be asking questions like " How did people manage to survive on Mc Donalds take away's?" and "Where did all the KFC chicken bones come from?" ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
