Problem with rads not getting hot. Had the system flushed out (£140) Worked for a while then only two rads worked. Plumber says system need repiping and new valves on rads which will cost £685. Is this a good price does anyone know? 7 rads in a 2bed bungalow.

The system was flushed out for over 3 hours with his machine thing after a sludge remover had been in the system for 4 days. Seems to know what he is doing. When it packed in again the plumber came round and had a look and persevered for over 4 hours. Cut into a pipe showed me the black stuff fitted another pump (although i had fitted one a month earlier) and then when i asked ''how much?'' said nothing! Nice man! Thing is.. this system is only 8 years old. Not as if its ready for replacing really. I really wasn't expecting a bill of that size though. 7 rads re-pipeing £685. Everything was fine as well before he did the flush out apart from 1 rad which was cold in the middle. Wish i had put up with that now!

Try the sludge buster again leave it in for a week then flush at mains pressure with a hose.

Sludge buster = £10-15

RE-pipeing = £ 685

Worth a try
