Hi,

I recently bought a Toshiba 37WLT68 and the shape of my room means I will have to put the TV up on an angled wall. Please see the pictures below (please excuse messy living room.)

The TV just fits in the space between the window and the recess and the angle accommodates the 2 couches that face the set. SO this means I do not really need an arm which allows me to rotate the TV as I will never need to rotate the set, as the edges will be very close to the wall and the middle area of the TV will be away from the wall, so I thought I could build out from the wall a rectangular flat plinth to attach a flat wall mount, which will save me alot of money. Is this a possibility or should I buy an arm that fixes directly onto the wall rather than a (securely) fixed flat plinth i could attach a flat wall mount to??

Then there is the issue of putting the wires behind the wall, i thought if i made the hole big enough for the plug i wont need to relocate a socket higher up behind the set. Would this be a possibility? OR should I use trunking etc, if that is the correct term? Some sort of pipe-work to put the wires down.

This is how the set is at present, plan to put it slightly higher up, on the wall, and hide the wires behind the wall.

This shows the angle of the wall, at the furthest point the TV will be maybe 20cm from the wall.

View from the other side.

I am worried that building out a flat section to attched a flat wall mount maybe a bad idea, and how best to put the wires behind the wall.

THANKS

I would be inclined to buid up a shelf up from the floor with a back on it with space to run the cables in. If it has solid sides it will help support the weight.
You might also provide a shelf or two for your Sky box etc. underneath.

Right, not sure you posted in the correct section, since it's carpentry work.

Neither edge available will take a suitable fixing such as 4 x 3" 12's or even M8 rawl bolts.

Fixing will have to be centre of the short wall and 4" in from the window architrave.

Visualise 2 x vertical 50 x 50 planed soft wood batons and each fixing area, each baton should be no higher than the TV.

You then need some 25mm MDF that will face on to the batons. Due to angles the MDF face will not sit flat on the batons, but provided you drill suitable holes and countersinks in the MDF centred to the baton (4 x 1.5" 10's each side) the board will be solidly fixed.

Then buy a Vesa flat bracket and job done.

Failing that, if it's too much. £150 will get you a Vesa bracket with a 200mm arm which would allow the TV to sit correctly and look to dogs do dahs

If you really want to go for it, why not 'box in' that recess, making sure you put studs in for the bracket position, and plasterboard/skim. Gives you the chance to loose cabling in the wall - fit a socket behind TV etc. The TV would look better flat on a flat wall like this than straddling two walls.

thanks for the replies.

you are right this is probably best in the carpentry section. mods could you please move this thread? apologies for this.

i need it across the 2 angled walls as it is the best place to accommodate my 2 couches.

@chri5- if i built out a flat box and attached a flat vesa mount it would look the same as a 200mm arm vesa mount surely, as both will be hidden behind the tv?

THANKS

Is this perhaps deceptively easy... can't you mount it on a high strength swing arm that's designed for this sort of application?

will it not fit in the recess with the elephant in it?

that way you can put your sky box / dvd / vcr and storage under it..

well i could get an arm that costs £150 or i could do the plinth and get a flat mount that would cost a fraction of the price.

i sont want to put it flat on the wall were the recess is, there is a couch that sits perpendicularly(sp?) to that wall, and i can't move it!

thanks

post the exact mounting hole dimensions and weight of the unit, distance from wall and angle you require and I'll get the guys at work to make you one.. you'll have to come down to fetch it though.. or put me up for the night and provide a dinner if I bring it up...

:D

Oh and I'll need cable hole locations and sizes. too..

Spend the money, buy a decent arm and bolt the thing to the wall. That way you can swing/tilt it to whatever angle you like if, for instance, you feel like lying the other way round on the settee.

save money and just use the supplied table stand on a decent unit with plenty of space for all the AV hardware thats what i did with mine. Bought a small LCD for the bedroom and it didnt have the VESA mount system but had two keyhole slots in the back. Staff at currys said put two nails in the wall that will hold it. I used screws and it was on the wall for a while before i fitted the table mount which i prefered.

think i am just going to splash out on a proper arm mount, will be less hassle attaching it to the wall etc, and will give me peace of mind too!
