Plug stuck in socket

That is over the top. A new plug for it yes and possibly a fitting charge from the sparks but not a complete new kettle.
I'd only expect it to be a new plug, but like everything else it will have to be assessed on site.

Thanks for all the responses.
The electrician has been and fitted a new socket and plug to the kettle. He said it was the socket that caused the issue. We sourced the electrician ourselves so thankfully didn’t fall into a trap where the electrician has loyalties with the landlord.
