I'm all for the Police and support them in every way. But they are not paid that bad and do have access to very healthy pensions. My pension has suffered since Lock down because I prioritised my money for other things. Let's not forget police officers, teachers and hospital staff have earned money through all of this. Not all of us have.

It should not be the level of pay that’s in question . It’s the level at which that person puts themselves based on it. Joe average taking home £2000 a month will probably commit 80% of it to mortgage cars insurances pensions hp and payments and contracts for piddling trivialities to keep up with his equally ugly neighbours. As time passes these things become essentials to them , things that they deserve.
When the realisation strikes home that they over stepped the mark and wasted tens of thousands on said trivialities instead of saving for a rainy day their answer invariably is to scream poverty, not look at cutting back to compensate for high inflation and rising interest rates.
In a nutshell a society of shallow materialistic competitors has been created on the back of cheap credit and easily accessible debt.
We’ve all been given the rope to hang ourselves over the last 15 years . I have no sympathy for those of us that chose to put it around our necks.

No idea how some peoples pensions work either but what would you expect from similar,
You could say it's self regulating after a fashion. If there is shortage of graduates for some particular job area the universities turn more out.
I'll exaggerate another point as well.
