If that were the case, they'd be asking for political threads to be deleted altogether rather than be posted in their own forum, would they not?

It wouldn't work. The posters who have destroyed GD have zero self-control and zero respect for anyone who doesn't share their viewpoint. When they run out of reasoned argument (which is usually pretty quick), they resort to personal insult. In the football terms that some of them seem to prefer, they play the man not the ball.
I enjoy reading your posts. I'm sure there are other posters like you who would engage if GD was a moderate welcoming place not a place full of vitriol and bullying. I don't care about anyone's political views as long as they are expressed respectfully, without insult and without demeaning and patronising those with a different view. Sadly, I don't see that happening anytime soon. The guilty parties in this seem to be of the view they are providing some kind of public service. They aren't. The only option left is to remove their platform. It's not much of a platform any more anyway, they've already ground it into the dust and it's just a sad little echo chamber, same folks, same mantras, same old same old.

I don't think I have seen you comment in any GD thread, so Im not sure why you should be bothered.
I do agree that there is far too much bickering and that should stop.
I would like to point out that this thread about politics rather seems to echo the views put out by the Tories: lets try and get Brexit off the front pages because we want to give the impression it is 'done'.
The truth, of course, is that the reality of brexit is only starting and the many problems outlined by brexit sceptics are going to start surfacing with trade talks. But many on here dont want it discussed -which I feel is the reason behind this thread.
