Politics sub forum?

It just feels like we need to separate the general discussion from politics.

Some posters are too balls-deep to stop; witness the non-political threads where Brexit is shoehorned in, however oblique or obtuse the connection.
That is certainly true, snide brexit comnents get inserted into non relevant threads. I think a fair blame can be directed at Ellal on that one (not saying Im blameless).

Ceres used to comment a lot on here... I guess that's the point. It's driving good people away?

Political discorse is very divisive now and nowhere worse than social mefia.
The level of vitriol on twitter makes GD look like a church coffee morning.

Doesn't matter. My mum used to say to me 'two wrongs don't make a right'. :-)

We could try and be better than twitter.... just a thought!

I totally agree and I am happy to try be part of making GD a more polite place, if its allowed to continue.

The difficulty is that political debate is riddled with logical fallacies.

I honestly can’t remember Ellal posting in anything other than Brexit threads or turning other threads into Brexit threads. Apart from those that join up to ask a DIY question, most long-time members on here have a particular trade or skill and that’s handy when you need some advice. I once asked Ellal what his/her (he/she won’t say) particular skill or trade was. Again, he/she fell into the 'prefer not to say group'. Don’t see what the big secret is.

If people don't want to hear it, why bother saying anything? People's politic beliefs are personal. Who are any of us trying to change those opinions? It's mainly about point scoring these days than actually trying to do some 'good'. Comments are snide, superior - not helpful. It's become very stale.

Perhaps we should just all avoid brexit and political debates, stop putting up new threads about it and just understand that we are never going to agree and respect each others views? In a few years all the brexit stuff will settle anyway.

Even those threads that get ignored drive the other threads off the page.
