My next door neighbour just knocked on my door to say they are thinking about cutting the grass today and did I think it was a good idea.

I replied with a very straightforward:

What type of grass is it?
When was it laid?
How often is it watered if we go through a dryish spell?
Is there a slope? If yes, what gradient and what % of the lawn is sloped?
Did you take a temperature and humidity reading?
What's the weather forecast?
What make and model is your lawn mower?
Is it maintained in accordance with the manufacturers instructions?
Are you trained to operate the mower in the correct manner?
Do you have protective clothing, eye protection and ear protection?
Have you checked to make sure none of the immediate neighbours are on night shift?
Do you have any family or friends due to visit who might unintentionally interrupt the work?

That my friend will give you the answer you seek.

I've encountered several over the years,
An example of mechanical damage being a vertical tower fan heater with a spiral wound spring style element supported every couple of inches or so (50mm) with mica washers (for want of a better description), I suspect the fan had been dropped as all of the mica pieces had broken and a significant amount of the element was bunched at the bottom shorting out.

And is this a short between adjacent turns of the element? A short to the sheath?

Both of those are not involving any sheath and the tower is class 2

And would that that short between turns of a resistive wire be relatively low impact due to small voltage differences between adjacent turns? Or am I missing something?

How much was it approx?

Both of those involved significant parts of the element shorting and overloading the OCPD, when only a turn or two are shorted it's highly likely it will never be noticed, the most likely effect witth be a dark spot in the glowing element.

I don't particularly agree with that statement. There are other ways at not being criticised, as I see it I only have one critic whereas you appear to have multiple critics... Hmm I wonder what the difference is?

The difference is that there are more children here, and more people motivated by personal animosity, and more people who think that abuse and insults are acceptable, than there are people who want posts to be intelligent, and rational, and civil, and where appropriate based on evidence and facts, and to be reacted to, replied to, and discussed in the same way.

I do not really think that the "Stop Jabbering" remark was helpful at all.

If we agree on the premise that an MCB should not be allowed to run on its curve (overloaded) then exactly the same applies to an RCBO.
