The use of RCD's with a rated residual operating current (I delta n) not exceeding 30mA and an operating time not exceeding 40ms at a residual current of 5 x I delta n is recognised in a.c. systems as additional protection in the event of failure of the provision of basic protection and/or the provision of fault protection or carelessness of by users.

No mention of single or double pole requirements.
Have you seen something which specifically mentions double pole?

Most RCD's are DP, right??

Most RCCB's are double pole
RCBO's are mostly SP but there are DP versions.

Both RCCB and RCBO are afaik forms of RCD

I can't find any requirement to disconnect on both pole for auto-disconnection, but just asked because RCD's come as double poled.

I do see an RCCB having a BS EN 61008-1 number and RCD's having a BS EN 61557-6 number.
Making a RCD different to a RCCB (which has a different name to a RCBO of course).

Surely the big book should cover ALL protective devices currently on sale?

The 16th edition gave a title of Residual Current Device to BS4293, BS7071, BS7288, BS EN 61008-1 and BS EN 61009-1. (412-06-02 (ii))

A Residual Current Device is an RCD.
Guess what a BS EN 61009 is? It's an RCBO.

RCD is just a generic term. It covers a whole range of devices including RCCB, RCBO, SRCD.
What most people refer to as an RCD is an RCCB.
