hello
looking for a little advice.

just purchased a ex council flat and looking to have the boiler moved from a cupboard in hall way into the kitchen.
i know i will need a reg installer to do this but other issues to be addressed first.

the flat has a porch and this is where the gas meter is, the pipe is under the concrete floor then comes into the property in a different cupboard facing the boiler one. it runs at ceiling height along this cupboard into a void where the old hot air heating was then it runs along ceiling over living room door into kitchen along ceiling into back of cupboard that currently houses boiler then run back out this cupboard behind kitchen units to cooker point.

i want to have the pipe running from meter under floor in porch into hallway under the concrete floor there straight into the cupboard that housing boiler so then can have clear run into kitchen for cooker and boiler.

so i want to do the ground work for this by creating the trench any ideas on how deep does it have to be ??

is there a different depth for plastic, copper, steel pipes??

i will be getting a registered fitter to do the job but want the ground work ready for him to come do the pipes and go so i can refill and carry on

cheers

You will be wasting a lot of time if you don't get the RGI's requirements before you do any work.

how could we possibly advise from your description , whats the problem with getting an installer to have a look ??

thats why im asking questions before i start as i have few other jobs to do before i get the boiler moved but its going to be easier have the trench done while im doing theses jobs like replacing front door where the pipe will be entering and running

cheers

the part i need the advise on is regs for how deep a trench i need to run pipe under concrete floor. i should of mentioned its a straight run of 13 ft.

im reluctant to call someone at moment as not sure when i will be having job done as i have other jobs to do before moving onto kitchen part of project and dont want to waste an engineers time to come out look when might be few months before ready to have boiler move and connected.
cheers

Ask for a quote for moving boiler and running new pipework. But do tell him the timescale.

Are you sure the boiler is worth moving?

I charge more for moving a boiler than fitting a new one! More work.

Are you looking for an argument...or are you a closet installer?...I'm sure you could go online or God forbid go to the the library and dig out the relevant British standards if you half as clever as you think you are...or do you just want to argue some more?...hmm. let me guess

the boiler was only updated a year ago so hoping it'll be ok.
