rommy, what exactly were you dumping? Was it the overfill from the black bin? I'll bet at least 70% of what you were dumping was recyclable, and the gent there was just trying to help you. I dont blame him, frankly, and you overreacted. Your taxes, as you say, pay his wages, so why not let him help you? Your arguement if any, is flawed by the fact you didnt let him help you. You pay this man, as you say, yet wont let him help you.

Hi Crafty,I do recycle,I have a black container that the council have supplied.This I put in my news papers,tins and cardboard.I have a compose
bin for my kitchen and garden.
I was just throwing away that I can't recycle,like plastic milk bottles and waste meat. So being a non-interlectual,I do recycle most of my rubbish.
The person was not trying to be helpful ,he was trying to throw his authority around.If he had come up to me and said "Excuse me mate is there anything in those bags that could be recycled?"That would have been fine with me.But I find this typical of people now,give them a title and they think they can talk down at you.But to have someone come up to you with no...".Excuse me, can I help?".....just "What you dumping"as if I'm committing a crime.And to my point is that as tax payers we are paying their wages, wich I just found out is £7.00 ph,could not the unemployed do this job for their dole and save the tax payer some money?Best regards.

rommy, comments taken on board. Businesses have to freeze raw meat and have a specialist such as PDM come and take it away.

Does your local council have no provision whatsoever for plastic recycling? Ours wont collect plastic from the doorstep, but does have plastics containers at all its recycling centres.

Hi crafty,they have skips for bottles and metals.But all general household waste goes down the shute.I heard that in the near future there will be a charge to use the dump,I expect it is to pay for these new refuge operatives wages.

I think it is a disgrace calling sick people work shy if they are getting a sick note of their GP,S who is a so called qualified Doctor and he is being fooled then i blame the doctor for not doing is job properly.

Most Doctors want a quit life and they wont turn round to a moron and say your fit for work, he values is comfy life to much.

the problem for a lot of people on the rock and roll is they would get less money i they were to get a job, so why bother?

thats the reason i and two friends stuck on the dole so long.

reducing the benefits may help this but in reality will probably just make more crime in areas full of bludgers trying to make ends meet.

Seems to me that if a government wants people to live and contribute in a society then they must not wash their hands of the problems that have been created such as lack of jobs.

For example, doesn't matter that coal is not economical to bring upside anymore, damn the cost, just ban imports of coal so that the industry can survive over here.

Ban imports of most things that can be built over here and start manufacturing them again.

Don't worry about the outcry from other nations,become self sufficient now, as when the oil runs out it'll be a free for all anyway with no nation giving a damn about the others trade deficits.

The people who work at the recycling centres are not highly paid, and are less well qualified and educated than the average visitor to their site.

If you don't have it within you to recognise that then you're more foolish than the person you mouthed off at. In fact, methinks you dost protest too much - if I'm questioned it doesn't occur to me to feel accused of a crime, because I don't commit crimes. If you have a guilty conscience then I daresay it's for a reason.

This tired old platitude really does make me want to vomit. Can you not come up with something more original than some elitist whining about the mistaken belief that we pay their wages?

Where does this argument not apply? Do you pay the wages of every shop assistant who helps you? Every program producer who makes the stuff that you watch on TV? Every nurse or doctor who treats you?

Roomy, I've got to agree with everybody else and you are out of order, the guys are just trying to do their job.
My other half and I go to our recycling centre regularly and the staff there couldn't be more helpful.
They assist you in unloading your rubbish, they are polite, and the place is kept as clean and tidy as a recycling centre can be.
The centre is in Longridge on the outskirts of Preston and if any body who works there reads this, then keep up the good work, you are a credit to the community.
Some of the other council employees could take a leaf out of your book in dealing with the general public.

Hi drspock,I'm glad they do help you,that is what they are getting paid for,providing a service.My problem was the way this guy thought he could speak to people.To come up to me and say "what you doing?"

We are not even allow to do that! We have to empty it into the bin then the plastic in a another bin. It's because they cannot see what is inside the black bag which is understandable.
