You want to be heating your water during the cheaper off-peak (usually night-time) tariff, not daytime boost. The timer enables this. You'll need to check your tariff details for cheaper times.
The missing front flap on the timer doesn't matter but the Santon Premier Plus is an unvented cylinder and not a boiler!
