Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is satisfactory to drill a hole through a window frame or wall and attach a security light to a plug and use a normal soket on the wall. (very easily done)
Or do you have to run the security lights directly from a seperate switch on the wall from a FCU? (quite difficult)
any Comments will be appreiated
Thanks

thanks steve,
main point been though you could get charged 50 quid for fitting with a plug on the end or 150+ quid for fitting to light switch

I wasnt sure if there was a rule against fitting to a plug, does it have to be RCD protected or since the lights are high on the wall it doesnt matter?

I understand downstairs sockets have to be on RCD but upstairs dont, hence the question

Many Thanks

No RCD is required for outdoor lighting.

RCD requirement is currently only for socket outlets that could be used to provide power to portable outdoor appliances.
