Elderly mother had year 3 service done on a Baxi combi last week, engineer didn't fill any test details in the book, just put his name and gas safe number, no signature either and all written in pencil.

Should she be concerned as the boiler also has a 10 year manufacturer warranty (dependant on service)

Was you mother given an invoice showing the date, work done, and price etc. If so, this should be sufficient to show that the boiler had been serviced.

I was more concerned the proper tests weren't done after the cover had been removed, maybe they where but strange the results where not recorded.

Was it the same enginer as your mother has previously used (or from the same company)? If not how did your mother find the engineer?

How would you know what tests should be carried out and what the correct results should be? Apart from cleaning items, which normally is only done if tests results are outside the manufacturer's limits, a boiler service is much like a car's MOT: it just gives you the condition of the boiler at the time it was tested. Things could go wrong the next day without the engineer having any sign that something was wrong.

I always thought (from messages on here) if a room sealed cover is removed then it should be tested with an analyser? Test results where recorded at year 1 and year 2 just seems lazy or odd that the results weren't recorded this time.

Test for leaks are usually done with a lit match or taper. Most of the leak consists of air so the concentration of dangerous gases is very low and could be missed by an analyser. In any case the Benchmark Service Record does not ask for any test results, only whether the "Energy Effiiency Checklist" (whatever that is) has been completed.

Why not complain to the company (assuming it's not a one-man band)?

So just to clarify if the room sealed cover has been removed the Co and CO2 % at max and min rate don't need checking?

I am going to speak to the company but wanted to clarify first if they had actually done anything wrong hense this post.

Don't know the exact model as it not in my house but it's a 3 year old Baxi combi one that comes with a 10 year manufacturer warranty so that narrows it down a bit.

Is the model really relevant to my questions though?

The cover removal is irelevant to FGA although without removal the boiler has not been inspected.
As it's a modern boiler it requires FGA after servicing/inspection.
Any cover forming part of a sealed combustion chamber would have a visual inspection along with any other part that form the sealed box.
It would be expected that the log book details are properly filled in after a service...what does the company say.

Flue Gas Analysis ie. the procedure to measure the CO2 and other gasses in the combustion products and adjust the boiler settings if necessary. It's mandatory for a service on a modern boiler.
