Shelving with Plasterboard??

Hi everyone!
I just wanted ask whether instead of using MDF for shelf cladding, I could use plasterboard cut to size and screwed onto the wooden frame? I think it might work, but this is my first big DIY project.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if it wasnt the 6th i would be very suspicious :eek:
ply mdf pine scaffold boards all make good shelves plasterboard does not
 
It will work but it runs the risk of cracking/breaking up depending on the weight you put on it. I have created some in my house that I am renovating now I did however use a 20mm insulation board under it for support as plasterboard breaks easily.
