Well this should put the idea we need ID to vote to bed. It's based on evidence not speculative bull crap.

The voter complained that not only was the dataset tiny – a rise from 21 cases in 2014 to 44 in 2016 – but that the Cabinet Office failed to mention that the number of allegations then fell by more than a third in 2017, to 28.

The problem you have to address with a universal ID card, is this: Fast forward 10 years, where all other forms of ID have effectively been replaced. Banks no longer wanting multiple forms, solicitors being happy with one etc..

To steel your identity, I only have one Identity card to forge. Then trying getting your bank accounts and house back or even proving you are who you say you are.

The next issue you have is this: When did any government IT project ever go right? Its not about labour vs conservative, they have all got their huge failures in the closet. Governments simply can't be trusted. They'd probably be as dumb as the US and upload it to the amazon cloud.

Wouldn't it be much simpler to have a unique number or such like tattooed on our arms? That would help the state and other organisations no end. :cautious:

Good idea but I think the chin would be best. Very hard to hide your chin

Anybody who develops systems for a living always try to never have a single point of failure. Putting all your data into a single ID document even with the best will in the world will end up being compromised. The only effective way is to have multiple documents and to build up a profile that is not reliant on any single document or system for ID verification.

Perhaps we could go all Logan's Run. Crystal implanted in their hands which shows who they are and when they're approaching 30 and time to snuff it.
Think about it, killing everyone on their 30th. Would save this country a fortune with housing, benefits, the NHS as well as being a form of ID. That's a load of problems solved :D
