Where in the bathroom under the current BS7678-2008 can a pull cord isolator be installed for the isolation of a shower.

Many Thanks

Afaict the switch itself must be outside the zones (note: zone 3 doesn't exist anymore) and the insulated pullcord can drop into any zone.

Usually the ceiling is high enough to be outside the zones but there are some properties where it isn't which can pose a problem.

Erm... on the ceiling

Sorry about the flippant remark made at the end of a very long day.
Plugwas has summed it up very nicely

Does it HAVE to be a pull cord shower isolator switch, is there any reason why a suitably rated DP RCD (of the din-rail mount mainswitch compatible format) can't be used just outside the bathroom door, (or in an adjacent cupboard etc)???

The RCD's are designed to be used as a consumer unit's mainswitch (AC22), therefore are suitable to switch an entire installation.
Shower isolators are meant to be operated under (AC20) no-load conditions (you press the stop button on the shower unit first!) so it should be fine.

What I meant was are they designed to be operated several thousand times?

It may be one of the households where it's never switched off.

Besides at a tenner a time who cares if it only lasts a year.
You're assuming it is a household. It may be a place of work, in which case it will cost a darned sight more to replace it on an annual basis.

Fair enough.

I still don't think that the cheapness of replacing something if it breaks because it's not meant to be used the way you're using it means that it's OK to use it in a way it's not made to be used.

why not a 45A DP switch (with or without a neon), just outside the bathroom? Or is the feed not already RCD protected and you are trying kill two birds with one stone? If it is already RCD protected then there's no point putting a second one in line as either or both will trip.
