Shower Isolation

you know, we outght to add this to the list of changes we want to see to the 17th amendment 1..

a definitive "what the hell is a shower isolator required for and what can we use and where can we fit it. ?"..

we could also include..

"can we fit sockets / switches / FCU's to the inside of kitchen cabinets or built in furniture.?"
and
"do we need isolation / FCU's above the counter and clearly marked for socket outlets / outlet plates below the counter in kitchens for appliances?"

Once you have established the answer to the first part of that (mechanical maintenance, emergency etc), the regs have the answers to the others.

"can we fit sockets / switches / FCU's to the inside of kitchen cabinets or built in furniture.?"
Do the regulations say that you can't, or say that you must do something which installing them there wouldn't satisfy.

"do we need isolation / FCU's above the counter and clearly marked for socket outlets / outlet plates below the counter in kitchens for appliances?"
Same as the shower questions - what is the switch for? i.e. when you install one which regulation(s) do you think you're following?

What I meant was are they designed to be operated several thousand times?

It may be one of the households where it's never switched off.

Besides at a tenner a time who cares if it only lasts a year.
You're assuming it is a household. It may be a place of work, in which case it will cost a darned sight more to replace it on an annual basis.

Well if its a place of work it will probably never get switched off anyway.
If it does, chances are someone will call out an electrician when the shower doesn't work
