But totally unable to grasp the concept of a fan with live, and switched live coming from a light, and totally unable to work out how to provide the fan with live, and switched live from another switch if you don't want it to be controlled by the light switch?

I think that posters will have to provide more information from the off, to prevent completely useless posts like this.
We've had plenty of these posts recently, leading nowhere. They just wind up the regulars, who at the end of the day are posting in good faith, trying to clear up genuine electrical problems.
Such posts usually end up with the original poster abusing all and sundry, which just shows them up to be ill-educated if they cannot express themselves without the use of such language.
I suggest asking posters to provide as much information as they can, first off, and completely ignoring any abuse. This should see off potential wind -up merchants who get some kind of immature kick out of their purile behaviour.
