So come on, pick Boris's successor.

In public, a lot of Tories pretend they are anti-Johnson because of his lying and dishonesty

They pretend they only recently became aware of it.

We know this is not true and they were happy to support him as long as they gained by it.

Who knows what, if anything, they really believe?

See below.

Interesting that it's the tv company that has cancelled the leaders debate after two candidates dropped out, often they go ahead in their absence.

Blup

The way things are going, I'd say we need about half to one million immigrants over the next couple of years. Problem is, where would they live?
Do we?
When I was born, the UK population was about 50 million. Today we have between 60 and 70 million.
In addition to the numbers, as you say, where are several more million going to live?
Our NHS is already unable to cope. What sort of work will several million more do?
Add to that problem, we are still inviting in hundreds of illegal immigrants almost every day and they, being illegal, are not required to do any work yet are being paid handsomely for simply being here. Why?

(Sorry for suddenly appearing here. It has been several years since I visited this part of the forum, so I hope that no-one minds too much!)

Welcome back to GD

Hows Cheshire for temperature?
Its currently 34 deg in Sussex

There has been talk of fast tracking asylum seekers who are qualified health professionals, doctors especially.
No problem if their qualifications match ours (and they are here legally).

Thanks for the welcome! It has been over 36° in the shade in our back garden. Cats don't know what to do and are scared of our fan; goldfish won't eat. It's usually hotter darn sarf than up here in t'north. Summat's wrong.

Do you have any comprehension of a subject called "economics"?

Why do we need more people than we can house???

It has occurred to me, of course, that Boris is happily inviting in illegal boat people in order to (eventually) provide cheap labour. Perhaps he's annoyed that so many people either keep going on strike (naming no names of course!) or simply do all they can to avoid work (the Les Battersbys* of this world!)
(* Sorry, you'd have to watch Coronation Street!)

When I was born, the UK population was about 50 million.

thanks to universal healthcare and reduction in smoking, we have many more elderly. Who are, on the whole, much less healthy and much more of a drain on the NHS and social services than hard-working young migrants.

in 2007, for the first time in the country's history, there was more people over the age of 60 then there were under the age of 16.[75]

If you want to know why the NHS is overloaded, it's not the healthy young workers from overseas you should be looking at.

Have you got a mirror?
