Spoons

IT’S the ultimate nightmare scenario – your local Spoons being shut. Here regular Roy Hobbs explains what to do during the coronavirus crisis.

Remember it’s all *******s

How do I know this? By using faultless Brexiter logic: viruses are tiny, even smaller than ants. And who’s scared of ants? No one, except crybaby Remainer snowflakes. Therefore coronavirus is *******s. POINT PROVED.

Make your own protective clothing

If you’re still worried, make a protective mask as follows. Put a plastic bag over your head and create an airtight seal around your neck with several metres of duct tape. Ignore so-called ‘experts’ going on about ‘suffocating’. It’s just more Project Fear.

Find irrelevant examples of ‘false’ alarms

Make light of the coronavirus with specious comparisons to events like BSE and the Y2K bug. Don’t concern yourself with more relevant examples such as Spanish Flu, which will be easy because your historical knowledge is limited to Yesterday channel’s Heroes of the Battle of Britain.

Blame the EU/foreigners in general

Even if coronavirus is a minor problem for plucky Britain, how did it get here? We didn’t invent it, so the answer must be: foreigners, with their mucky habits such as making a big pot of pangolin and bat soup.

Practise not being in Wetherspoons

It’s a gut-wrenching vision of purest nightmare, but your local might be closed by the namby-pamby authorities. Practise for this by spending some mornings and afternoons in your own home. Recreate the Spoons vibe by inviting 120 people over to drink Stella and Old Peculiar in your now unbearably packed kitchen.

Boris has allowed off-licences to open, so one cheer for Boris. Let's hope the pubs will be allowed to soon - that would be the right way to get the workers of Wetherspoons their pay. The government, not Tim, is to blame for the 'spoons situation.

Boris is throwing funny money all over the place these days, and I think that on the re-opening of the pubs, he should declare a national holiday, with a day's pay for all workers and free beer in all pubs all day!

Says a man who derides druggies but champions alcohol - one of the UK's biggest killers.

Drink enhances more lives than the deaths it causes. Drinking alcoholic drink is legal. Taking illegal drugs is, erm, illegal - you have to be a person of bad character in the first place to take them. That's one of the reasons why I "deride" druggies. Encouraging or condoning the taking of illegal drugs is giving in to the worst people amongst us.

great news! so we just have to make drugs legal, and the people taking them will be law-abiding citizens, and the problem goes away.

what to we have to do with alcohol to prevent violent criminals, vandals, drunks, alcoholics and wife-beaters using it? Make it illegal?

No, because, you will find, that such people are criminals in any case. They will simply keep committing other crimes, no matter that one of the crimes has become legal.

The drug debate brings out such strange logic in people. If car theft were legalised, would you then think that car thieves, now law-abiding citizens, were good people?

You mean that these alcohol-users have innate criminality, despit the fact that alcohol is currently not illegal.

And the science says.... Nope! When drugs were legalized in Portugal (not even made available for sale, just not illegal) other crimes stopped. So those drug users because more law abiding.

There we agree. The logic most abolitionists (like you) use is pretty weird. It is accepted by most people that can count that legalisation reduces crimes by drug users and health repercussions, yet because it's morally wrong it isn't allowed.

If alcohol was made illegal then do you think more people would start stealing cars? Spoiler alert: yes. See prohibition.

Blimey you talk in riddles! Stop smoking pot and start making sense. You will find that the communism will go away too.
