Spot light loft protectors?

Intumescent hoods / fire rated downlightsare almost never required in domestic properties, as the vast majority of ceilings do not form part of a fire compartment.
I am not sure that is correct. When we built the house 30 years ago our ceilings had to provide "a modified half hour (15 minutes) of fire resistance" to ensure the joists did not burn before everyone could be evacuted from the house.

But even if modern building standards do not require a prolonged fire barrier at the ceiling it does makes sense to give your family the best protection.

But studies have shown that the lamp / downlighter body will afford you a similar level of fire resistance to a standard ceiling.

It is only when you penetrate a fire barrier that you need to also increase the fire resistance of the light fitting.
