So this was a strategy all along? Cancel the elections, knowing that Reform would challenge, then walk away on the court steps, looking weak, making the tax payer pick up the bill. Just to allow reform to show how useless they are?

Might as well call a general election.

we are going to lose the court case, it will be hugely embarrassing, and people will vote us out to punish us.

No strategy, just a political U turn on a sensible decision to avoid the cost and waste of elections in local councils that would last a year or two longer before ceasing to exist.

And the elections shouldn't have been cancelled...

But it's interesting to note that farage apparently used a judicial review threat...
