The bar stewards want people to work for nothing

That is the answer - people shop with their feet. Why pretend it isn't?

That's it - people voting with their feet. What else can I say. I've given you the real-world reason.

You disappoint me Joe, as the self proclaimed champion arse kicker of Diynot, that is your reasoned answer.

No - that is the truth and I can't change that.

Why are you being insulting? When the argument is lost - the abuse begins.

People are voting with their feet. You may not like it - but who are you to tell others how to live?

You told me not to be silly...After 30 years on the markets I've seen the decline over the years and watched markets and town centres destroyed by the big boys.
Watching tens of thousands of self employed now unemployed and small businesses destroyed isnt 'silly'
I'm well aware why folks use the big boys...it doesn't alter the monopoly they are creating with their free parking and special offers (which don't last long) They are screwing the manufacturers and farmers too with their stranglehold.Less profits for them means less jobs too.

There should be room for both...but Tescos particularly are determined to wipe out the little man.In fact now they're into everything on the planet many of the bigger high street shops are disappearing too.

And what are the big boys doing now...getting rid of staff and installing robot tills. They can get stuffed...I'll deal with real people...not these profit mad giants.

Hang on there - I'm a huge fan of local markets. I'm sure you know the ones at Newark. I choose to shop at the markets any day - but most people are too lazy to get there. They would rather pay twice the price for fruit at tesco. There's a really good tool stall at Newark too - I'm there all the time.

It's a cr*p state of affairs. But if I was to go into Perth "city"(used very loosely, it's a cr*p town) centre I would have to first find a parking space, pay for it, walk about for miles to get what I need, hope the ticket hasn't run out, maybe consider going into a pub/restaurant for a meal but then decide not to because not sure how much time is left on the ticket, get back with 5 mins to spare and find one of the outsourced corporate greed merchants waiting about to nail you the minute it goes over the time...

Outskirts ASDA with cheap petrol and free parking and ALL INCLUSIVE shopping? Marvellous idea.....

The big enemy to small businesses is your local council and their parking charges. It's that simple.

You'll be amused to know that I could never make it pay at Newark... :) or Retford. But made a good living over the border in Derbyshire.

The creme de la creme of course was Thoresby Sunday Market...but that was in the days of Sunday closing...there was nowhere else to go,except the pub for two hours.

I guess the continued rise in supermarkets is something we have to live with. Even the ones that open up next to independent ones. Unless you're on the council you'll never find out what has gone on. The towns in my area are Abingdon, Wantage, Wallingford and Didcot. Didcot had a new shopping centre built a few years ago and offered free 2 hour parking. It slaughted the other towns and now they have followed suit. Many shops especially in Abingdon have closed and even recently opened new shops in Didcot have closed as well. Probably due to the recession.
I do like supermarkets and I don't see how some shops manage to exist when they cannot compete with cheap specialist shops.
I find that open market prices are higher than supermarkets. They very often cannot compete with Sm buying power.

Its a sign of the times and a sad fact that the small independant shops cannot compete on price or stock nowhere near what the likes of tesco can...but this is not specific to any one town its the same throughout the uk where you will find a retail park with all the big names on it ..tesco, halfords, next,b+q,matalan, mobile phone stores...ect,ect and within the next 6-10 miles there will be another retail park but in between these two there will be a tesco express ,they are a dominant force and will be for a very very long time...so shopping parades like ours has empty shops, charity shops, newsagents, pizza ,burger bars, betting shops and pound stores but this could be anywhere in the uk....we used to have lots of different shops selling their wares until the retail park appeared

See this from a tesco shop....after the demo and bad publicity closed the store said it was a IT mistake........yeah whatever,oh quick it may affect sales so lets stop it and say its a IT mistake

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17084634

Now Matalan, Sainsburys and Waterstones have opted out

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17086526

Now call it volutary, placement work experience or whatever but these companys was trying to get free labour and boost the coffers but after the bad publicity against tesco they backed

Tory scheme all against the working person again

All them dudes ended up with a paid job - at Tesco's. Before you post such rubbish, get your facts right eh.

Copy and paste from the first link
....................
spokesman for the Right to Work protesters said: "Tesco reports that over the past four months some 1,400 people have worked for them without pay.

"Only 300 got a job with the company.

Even if the 1400 got the job they have worked for 4 months for NOTHING ............A BIG FAT ZERO.........how much have tesco saved in wages by not employing 1400 people for 4 months and using the guise of helping them back to work?
Are you so effing blind to see where this is going? ....
ffs ..Tesco only pulled the ad because of bad publicity not a effing IT error....they are trying it on to boost profits at the expense of free staff....in a cuple of years time these bar stewards and others like them will offer you a job if you work the first 6/12/18 months or even 2 years if they can get away with it
