The tube attack

Well I'm sure Wikipedia makes Londoners feel safe at night JohnD Thanks for absolutely clearing that up (not)

Because that's what witnesses said.

What makes you think that the witnesses know what other resources are available?

Was it the same witness who said "he saw a man holding a knife, about 3in (7.5cm) long?"

A nutter in the street with a penknife is common enough for street cops to deal with.

In your part of the world, do the tanks and helicopters come out to every scuffle involving a drunk or a nutter?

For Christ sake John. Next you'll be telling us the police were wrong to taser the tw@t as it was only a 3" knife. Perhaps they should have let him off with a stern warning? FFS

John thinks the SAS were sitting drinking tea at the cafe while dopey plod took care of things.

Don't be silly. I have already said the police handled it well by disarming and arresting the nutter.

It is not usual or necessary to bring up the SAS to machine-gun some drunk or nutter with a penknife. The Leytonstone police deal with such people every day of the week.

See how JohnD insists on downplaying the situation by trying (unsuccessfully) to pass this terrorist off as just a nutter. Just because he didn't have an AK or others to help him doesn't stop him from being a terrorist - which is what he is. People like JohnD will keep hushing these things up, year after year. Helping the enemy within to keep getting stronger.

Anyway, there's very little separation between the ROP and being a nutter. People who dress in a sheet and are zealous in their religious fervour obviously have mental problems. Just keep hushing it up John, and keep supporting these psychotics.

Do they all shout "This is for Syria" and stab people in the neck?

The Police got it right here, and get it right most of the time in dealing with situations like this, whether terrorist, nut job or whatever.

We certainly don't want to have gung-ho police like in America.

What if he wasn't a drugged up nutter? Tazer vs AK47?

Whenever the suggestion that our police routinely carry sidearms is raised, the inevitable response is "what about America?"

What about America? Why compare us to them? I sometimes think that they are a nation of nutters. Almost every other day there is a news item about Americans shooting each other. They seem never to have progressed from the days of the 'Wild West' and I'm sure many Americans still regard themselves as cowboys.

Why does no-one ever mention Holland, or France, or Germany, or almost any other European country where all the police carry sidearms every day? I have always felt perfectly safe when travelling in such European countries; probably more safe than in parts of Britain, especially London.

And I think I should feel safer in this country if the police were armed, bearing in mind the present threat from IZAL.

Because influences, attitudes and trends of the British, tend to align more with the US than Europe. It's not just about the arming of the Police which needs to be compared.

I disagree.
Seeing armed police routinely patrolling our airports worries you?
