I did read an interesting article the other day which suggested this is their downfall. Brexit pushed them closer to the edge and coronavirus came along and booted their arse over the cliff.

The public have to be shown that there is a need to restrict the freedom of movement.

If the lock down had been imposed before there were any Covid related deaths then the public would not have seen any real reason to obey the lock down when it was imposed.
