The US elections are Nov 2024 and the new president doesn't actually take office until Jan 2025. Assuming Trump does win, the Ukrainians have 20 months in which to win the war. Not sure what DeSantis' position is regarding Ukraine.

The downside is the risk of "us" being involved and escalating the war (its not a special military operation), and I don't think we want that.

The upside is that ordinary Russians might start finding out what Russia is up to. Invading a sovereign country and having a lot of their citizens getting killed or injured when nobody has threatened their borders. They will want to know what is going on

You appear to believe that you know the "truth" of what is going on in Ukraine and if those poor brainwashed Russians knew the "truth" they would not support the war.
It could be, maybe, that the ordinary Russian is better informed that you are.
