if you are reffering to the hollow mock txg it come in perminant 10" coverage[ish] so you could ony blind nail every 3rd groove as the other 2 are false
now that workes fine under the eaves for example because you affix another solid component or quad which supports the cut edges and prevents sag
but a nail every 10 inches withour a supported edge may sag
if your talking solid 9 or18mm then the 40mm nails are perfect as they "dissapear" when neatly done
Yes, you would normally use the polytop nails, nailed into the grooves.
But you could also knock the plastic heads off these nails, and then secret nail them into the tongues. But, the risk is that the board flexes or expands/contracts and jumps off the tongue of the preceding board - this is because you only have a fixing every 300mm vertically. So its not recommend if the board will cop any significant weather.
And remember if nailing into the grooves, don't bang the nail in so far as to bend and stress the surface, as then all the indentations make them show up even more
