Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

Lately this forum reminds me of Zulu. The good guys (RGIs) are fighting a losing battle.

Whilst the Zulus were in many ways the good guys, their activities were threatening the British business interests.

Stupid though for a minority British presence 5000 miles from home to take on the effectively unlimited local population. Particularly when they were such determined fighters!

I've asked it before and I'll ask it again, if Joe public isn't aloud to touch their boiler then why do you guys spend so much time on here just to say 'call an RGI'

On some boilers you can access the hydroblock without disturbing the room seal.
Usually there would be a "decorative" cover and a room seal cover underneath, covering only part of the inside. An example would be a Baxi 105. Combi. Have a look at A manual for one of those and you'll see what I mean.

Your boilers cover is the room seal and shouldn't be opened unless u have the equipment to test afterwards.
Has it occurred to you the reason for the m6 bolt?

Have you done the job yet? How wet did u get

If the individuals I'm refering to are RGI's then I really hope you're not this condescending to your customers. If you came to do a job for me with that attitude then I wouldn't be using you again. Do you actually have this attitude when speaking with people face to face or do you only do it when you're behind a keyboard?

When you say this, you are forgetting the fact that the RGI is going to charge for the visit. If the customer, you, wanted free quote, what makes you think a lot of regulars would be rushing over to your place, cap in hand be begging to offer free advise. Sorry, I forgot- the heating engineer is going to rip you off, that is why you are seeking free advise here:cautious:

I managed to figure out my diverter valve was faulty after typing 'central heating on with hot water' into Google. The reason I came on here was to ask why it was only doing it on the bath tap and shower which no one has actually managed to answer.

£70 vs £216 is a big enough reason for me to do the job myself. It would probably still work out cheaper to pay for a service after I've repaired it myself just to make sure it's safe.

I haven't done the job yet but I'm capable of draining the system down so I'm not anticipating too much of a shower.

Not saying your gonna flood your house or get soaked but expect the unexpected(water);)

And no u wouldn't get any unexpected water because of my method
If also charge quite a bit more than £216inc vat to supply and fit one of these Diverter valves.
My boiler servicing starts from £70+vat dependant on location and boiler model

I just checked on the BG website. £79.30. So £149.30 vs £216. I know which option most mechanically minded people would take.

If someone was to do plumbing work themselves (no gas) and then get the boiler safety checked afterwards is that acceptable or would you still shoot them down?

Well my plan was to close the TRV's/valves on the all the radiators as I would expect less drainage and unexpected water flow that way. I would imagine cycling the diverter valve by hand helps to make sure you drain both heat exchangers otherwise I'm guessing they could p!ss water out when you remove the diverter valve.

That's fine.
As I pointed out it is to do with the design of the model of your boiler.
Some boilers you could change almost every water carrying part without opening the room seal.

See the difference. You can access the diverted valve without removing inner room seal.
It's the boiler not you. Don't take it so personally.
If you couldn't remove and replace the door on this boiler you would have starved to death by now. Point is seal has been disturbed and should be tested by someone competent with the correct equipment.
Now get on with it and try not to flood the place
