Hi
I have a 1995 8 valve cavalier and the big end is starting to knock,as i will be doing the job myself i just need a bit advice on the torque settings and after the job is done will it require re-torquing and if so at what mileage, and in general are there any pitfalls to watch out for. Any advice welcome thanks.

I think on the age of this vehicle and the possible additional problems you may have [crank damage, weak oil pump] i strongly suggest a second hand engine lots of breakers will have one 150 200 quid and pop a new cambelt and clutch for loads more motoring :D

Before you get stuck in.....take off the rocker cover and oil splash plate beneath and see that the camshaft hasn't got worn lobes - done a fair few of these! Otherwise, a second hand engine is really the way to go. Cheers John
