Was it expensive back then? As a youngster, chicken seemed to be reserved for Christmas - nobody seemed to like turkey. I'm no expert on meats or cooking, but now chicken seems to be the cheap option. I looked at lamb in the supermarket earlier this week and it seemed to be the more expensive option.

Snap-On tools. My fist tools were Elora and other cheapies. They did the job but didn't have any kudos. I think I still have some of the Whitworth sockets and a 1/4 Whitworth spanner for the battery terminals.

All of those and more than one room heated. New clothes were reserved for Whitsuntide, though later I would get new clothes (a size too big) in time for the new school term in the autumn. Now I just buy what I need, when I need, or when I take a fancy. My father always wore a collar, tie, belt and jacket all of his life, he claimed he would catch a cold if he went out without a tie and a belt.
