Isn't that its job description?
:sneaky:

"Lashings" always reminds me of Enid Blyton stories,

"They had lashings of ginger beer."
Never used by Blyton, lashings of other items apparently, it was introduced by the Comic Strip, Five go to Billycock Hill was my personal favourite

A trip to Scarborough today, sort of unplanned, what we had planned was to cook sausage mash, gravy, and green beans.

Nice day, though still a little breezy, so we stayed a few hours. Looking at menus is a sort of favourite pass time. I've tried a few of the places over the years, some OK, some just dire, then I remembered a little place just opposite the marina area, on the left, going north - which had always proved not only OK, but a bit cheaper than many. A F&C restaurant with a take-away, called Bamfords. We each ordered their restaurant £13 'Seniors Special' - haddock, chips, tea/coffee, bread and butter. It was absolutely superb, best either of us had for many years - fish fresh and perfectly cooked, bread nice and fresh.

Last time in Scarborough, I tried a tiny place, just around the corner from Bamfords, which came highly recommended, by various well known celebs. Scruffy on the outside, scruffy on the inside, but I try not to judge a book by... Their food was absolutely dire.

Fish don't have any fingers?

One of the Inside the Factory episodes showed how fish fingers are made. The high quality ones made from 100% fillet. It was really interesting. They hand pack the fillets into rectangular cardboard boxes, with the fillets top to tail. They they flash freeze the whole box. And you end up with a frozen slab of pure fish fillet which is then sliced to the requisite shape.

I only have Cod fish fingers, not generic white fish 'fillets'. I get 'fillets' for Mrs mottie as she is coeliac and Birds Eye only make one type of gluten free fish finger.

The ones on the TV show were also cod. What I meant was that high quality fish fingers, like Birds Eye and decent ones from supermarkets, usually say 100% fillet on the box, whether they are cod, haddock, or generic "fish". If so, they are made as described in my earlier post using nothing but whole fillets. Cheaper fish fingers won't say 100% fillet and can have small off cuts added and may even include fish paste.

The ones that say "fish" rather than cod or haddock are usually made from pollock, which has much less flavour.

If you went on mastermind would your specialist subject be fish fingers?

Reported.

But the reason I was interested is because I had heard loads of terrible stories about how fish fingers are made. But when I saw the good ones being made, I realised that the middle bit was just 100% best quality fish.

I never eat fish-fingers, I don't generally like any sort of fish at all, but I make an exception for haddock.

If I see anywhere just advertising 'fish & chips' I walk away. The idea of eating something, just described as fish, turns my stomach.

Salmon stir-fry with wild rice last night.
