I thought it had always been that way ie on the grounds that the marriage wasn't cosumated?

my apologies

if I had read the whole article, it would have made more of an impact than when I just picked at it and made a joke.
It has been brought up to discourage same sex marriages by putting in a clause that defines marriage as a procreation process and that if not fulfilled within 3 years of the "vows", declares the union as null and void. If passed, then they would be so kind as to put a little disclaimer in there that would basically state "if possible"....or along those lines. Just another example of discrimination against gays/lesbians.

No need to apologise MLB.

Besides the obvious discrimantion against same-sex marriage (love is love, isn't it?) it's also a slap in the face for people who, for what ever reason, don't want children (and there can be many reasons, don't only think people like this see children as a hindrance, there are lots of people who feel that this modern world isn't a place for children, or people who know that having children really isn't for them). Meaning: what's going to be left over of 'Free choice'?

Surely marriage is about the union of two people and a bond of love between them? Not some business arrangement like seems to happen these days especially amongst the celebrity.

If people want to live together in their own way then so be it, but church marriage is firstly a declaration to god of one's love and devotion to another, the legalities issue ie the civil marriage is merely to satisfy the law and society's responsibilities it doesn't mean jack in the eyes of God
therefore if one wishes to truly declare their love for another then a church marriage seems the logical thing to do, if one isn't that serious about marriage and just wants a certificate to say that they are married then go to a registrars. Those serious about loving one another will almost certainly consummate the marriage, so what's wrong with stopping those who only marry for gain or business arrangements from taking advantage of the system? People seem to forget what marriage actually means these days and treat it as some socially must have badge.
