I wonder whether any screws have left-hand threads. If they don't, I'm sure Stonewall will have something to say about it.

I bet not many of you would have seen headless screws! but beleive me there are millions of them around but you just don't see them!

I have recently bought wood screws with torx sockets. Whether with a power tool or a manual driver, there is no slippage or camming out, (or so far-anyway). I wonder if this will become the "de-facto" standard?
Great arnt they, in northen Finland there where using nothing else, hardware isles in the basement of the supermarket, about a 60/40 Torx/Pz split, either sold by the box full (inc a driver for each box of 200), or sold by weight from massive tubs.

They're security screws. You're not supposed to get them out!

so glad my initial dig at these stupid creations has been dragged to 5 pages so far.

Give it 30 years when screws are put in with some sort of contactless electro magnetism and we'll be asking what's the point of pozi , hex or whatever, :D

Never used those stainless hex's either Harbour but I've used plewnty of pozi stainless and they are softer but do benifit from using bits specifically for stainless.

With screw heads its all about surface area. In theory, a phillips or Pozi-drive screw head has more surface area connected with the driver in order to aid the screwing in and screwing out. Unfortunately, the problems observed with 'cross head' screws is mainly down the the fact that barely anybody uses the correct size driver, leading to slip and of course wear of the screw head which ultimately leads to them becoming rounded off and nigh on impossible to screw in or out. This problem has been made worse by the fact that the cheaper screw brands are now using the cheapest raw materials possible and the metal is becoming softer and softer as costs get higher and higher.

Slot heads are perfectly acceptable and useful when used with the correct drivers and as already stated, they are alot easier to work with in the long run.
