We have a Miele Cat & Dog, which is fine for general use on hard floors, but it fails to pickup all the dog hair (and sand, as we live by the coast) such that, if I vacuum thoroughly then try to use a carpet cleaning machine the latter clogs with hair and sand in minutes.....even if I'm not going to clean the carpet, I can still scrape up dog hair by rubbing the sole of my trainers on the carpet - its quite shocking what appears when you do that, dog-owners.

Is there a vacuum cleaner that really does suck everything out of a carpet? Would consider an industrial solution!

That machine does not have a brush bar so I would think it would struggle with pet hair and sand in a carpet. I would say you need something with that feature and need to use it daily with pets. We have had Dyson's for a few years now and would not use anything else.

As above, you need an upright cleaner, with a decent brush/beater bar. Some vacs, are sold as being especially good for pet hair. Even then, you will be able to wear the likes of a pair of trainers, and scuff along the carpet, to lift more hair and fur.

We, used to run the upright round, then follow that with scuffing the carpet with rubber soled shoes, to loosen even more, then vac again.

dog hairs stick to carpets and only mechanical action will shift them

I have a Henry which with a new bag and on high setting the floor brush will easily lift the carpet up but still leave dog hairs behind

I found the rectangular attachment with stiff brushes works pretty well, but the brush does get clogged with dog hair and needs clearing every so often

alternatively get an upright, although Im not sure whether the dog hair clogs the rotary brush on them

our miele does have a brush bar, but it slows down rather on carpets.....Ive never been that impressed with the machine, despite the price. I have shied away from Dysons over the years after some poor models early on.

we dog a new dog this time last year and she has longer hair than our previous dog of the same breed and she loses fine white hairs which seem to stick to the carpet. We vacuum regularly but I was amazed when getting down close to the carpet there was like a fine film of hair.

It amazing how the vacuum doesnt suck them up.

As I said I use the attachment with stiff brushes -its not a rotary thing. It does work but a bit tedious

We have a battery Dyson, an upright full size Dyson, and an upright AEG Pet vacs. The latter, just kept for use upstairs, to avoid carrying. There was nought much difference with the two uprights, much more effective than the battery Dyson.

so did the aeg or the dyson adequately deal with dog hair?

Almost adequately, but there are limits to what even the best vac is able to do.

In the caravan, it has removable short pile carpeting, I would do that with the upright vac, when that had got the majority off, I would then tackle it with one of those sticky rollers, and still get more out of it.

I find the George cleans just about anything , great for carpet cleaning .

The problem is - pet fur and hair can be very, very fine, though light, it has little air resistance, and can entangle itself within the carpet. A George, has plenty of suck, but lacks any sort of beater bar, to help untangle the fur.

It wets it and suction removes it very effectively , a beater just wraps it clogging machine .
It did a great job of picking up huge clumps of dog hair from my daughter moulting husky.
