hi guys i need to fit 10 downligts in our kitchen and i was wondering which ones to fit as they will be fitted into our flatroof in our kitchen and currently theres 7" joists and rockwall insulation in the ceiling and was worried about fire hazards.Ive done a bit of reading and i get the general feeling gu10 model are frowned upon due to energy and heat ,i totally agree but the low energy ones people talk about are they the ones with tranformers also is there a diagram knocking about to have a glimse at many thanks in advance

o dear you got me worried now but i must say floor to ceiling height is fairly low 2.2m so pendants not really and option :)

Low energy ones (CFLs) do not use a transformer.

The ones with transformers are low VOLTAGE. They use the same energy as mains voltage halogens.

You can, however get low voltage LEDs, which are also low energy.

Wiring of low voltage arrangements will vary amongst manufacturers. Most simply involve a transformer being connected to a fitting, wiring is straightforward.

Mains voltage is always easier, and less to go wrong. Transformers do go wrong.

cheers steve for clearing that up for me ,could you recomend anly for me which wont burn my head when i walk under them

Not as bright as a 50watt halogen and a slow warm up time.

I find them good for other rooms though.
