But it's amazing that 16 year olds aren't considered by many to be mentally competent enough to vote, and yet those who may be demented by age are trundled off to the polling stations despite often not knowing what or who they are voting for!
I agree. It is a tricky one. I was all for allowing 16 year olds the vote, then read a pretty good argument against it. Still not sure!
Officially, people become a grown up at 18. 16 year olds still need parental consent to join armed forces, marry, ...
But then they can, without parental consent, get a passport, change their name, pilot a glider, and leave home. I wonder how many realise that this is an escape option?
