I am thinking of renovating an out building and am thinking of having exposed brickwork on the inside. In this case as there will not be any plasterboard can the wiring go in the cavity? I will be employing an electrician but am just working it through in my own head first.

It will be used for maybe a study, or summer room - not just a shed or something like that.

So you'll need to insulate it, and CWI will be the easiest and cheapest way, so any cables in the cavity will be in insulation and so will need to be a lot larger than normal.

Surface mounted pyro might be an option, if you can find an electrician who is good at it.

I figured that if the walls are just going to be left as bare brickwork, looks aren't high on the list of requirements anyway.

I thought that cables in wall cavities were a no-no (except for DNOs :-)), anyway, aren't they?

Kind Regards, John.

Galvanised, though, not black enamel.

S/S would look even better, but would be very expensive.

I would guess this is a mineral insulated cable job. Great stiff have seen where the mortar has been part taken out cable inserted in space and pointed so you can't tell there was a cable there at all.

However mineral insulated cable is not a job for DIY the potting of the ends does take some skill and I would even as an electrician go to one of my friends who worked with this cable before to get them to pot it for me.

Also known in trade as Pyro cable.

Failing that look at Ali-tube cable it's not as good as mineral insulated but easier to install and the stuff with white plastic coating should not look too bad.

Couldnt agree more , metalclad sockets and switches would finish it off nicely.
