ok, so that's eliminated one theory I had.. good..

have you swapped the red and black in the kitchen switch? switch 6 on my drawing?
try that and repeat above.. report back..

EDIT, 14:58.. going roung the shops.. be back in a bit..

i take it you mean my drawing
i have swapped over the red/black TE in switch 6 from l1 to l2

with all switches off the results are

4 on 5 on no lights
4on 5 off hallway on
4off 5off hallway and kitchen on
4off 5on no light

I meant take the black out of the com and swap it with the red in L2.. on switch 6 as it's labled in the above drawing.

the reds at the top of switch a should be singles in your drawing if this matters. Right ive changed it back and changed the red and black over in switch 6. The red in now in c and the black is in l1. the results are_

switch 6 doesnt work at all
with all switches off
4 on 5off no lights
4 on 5off hallway on
4 off 5off hallway on
4off 5on no lights

with 3 on 6 on

4on 5on hallway on
4on 5off no light
4off 5off no lights
4off 5on hallway

with 3 on 6 off

4on 5on hallway kitchen
4on 5off no lights
4off 5off no lights
4off 5on hallway

7 only works if 6 is on and can be switched 2 way by 5 if 4 is on but 5 is turning the hallway and the kitchen on off together.

this is doing my head in..
I could have been there by now..

for a laugh, link the single reds at the com of switches 4 and 5..
tell us what happens..

do you own a multimeter?
if not go out and buy one ( about a tenner from B&Q etc.. )

with the commons linked at 4 and 5, the kitchen and hallway lights are on when all the switches are off.
4 does nothing and 5 works 2 way with 3.
6 and 7 do not work at all
