Would anyone here change a lightswitch without turning the power off? I'm sure they did this when they changed a lightswitch at my shop. To isolate the circuit, they would have had to go down 2 storeys to the DB in the cellar. Is this sort of thing heard of?

Also, what's the deal with changing light bulbs in commercial premises? Do electronic ballasts wear out? They came the other day to change bulbs in a few lights and swapped a few electronic fittings for ones with starter motors I didnt think they used these any more, and i thought electronic fittings lasted forever (within reason )

Just general contracting work. Anything from an extra domestic socket to new build factories. I tend to hide if I hear a mention of a domestic job though. Lighting is just a hobby (in theaters)

We are all probably guilty of working live sometimes, although as someone else mentioned it is frowned upon by the hse and should only ever be done as a last resort. Relatively speaking they should have turned off the power to change the switch as there is no real reason for not doing this dead.

Me too :lol, I like to do theatre stuff as well although now it is only a couple of times a year, are you a member of Blue Room? What type of board do you use?

I'm still on Sirius 24, a bit long in the tooth by todays standards but beats the brush shank taped to the knee and one in each hand with the good old variable resistor banks
