Has anyone claimed on one of those United Utilities Home Serve plans?
i.e. a leak occurs, you claim and someone comes and fixes it all for free and you are just paying £10 a month.

It does sound too good to be true, i.e £2000 limit for indoors, £4000 for outside, pipe repair etc.

be interested to hear anyone who has actually claimed
(not just peoples views..)

cheers

I had my garage broken into and Homeserve were my insurers repair agent, they had to fit a new garage door and frame and they were pretty useless at doing it, I had to lend them some tools so they could finish the job and they had to come back 3 times after the install to get it 100% correct.

I know yours is a slightly different scenario but you may get the same guys fixing any problems that you are insured against.

Cheers for the reply

It's Good that they at least attempted the job without giving reasons not too.

My worry is that they turn up and say that pipe has been old/rusty/leaking from before the contract was signed...

Is it? I'd rather have someone do the job who knew what they were doing in the first place and didn't have to come back 3 times....

Read the policy information. It's just an insurance policy the same as your buildings/contents one.
You may find most of what you are paying extra for is already covered by your buildings/contents policy anyway.

I am aware of several people who have claimed on such a plan run by the water suppliers for damage to pipes/drains externally.

In all cases the charges made by the contractor were excessive and quickly ate up the insured sum (£2k?) which then left an additional large sum to be paid out by the homeowners.

I stress that mine was a different scenario, the claim had been agreed, Homeserve were simply (or not) fitting an item for money. If their policies are like their fitters then you might want to have a rethink. 8)
