Can anyone tell me what a fair price for moving a gas hob connection point 2 foot higher than it is and fitting a hob with a flexible hose would be?

OP...no offence but i hate posts like this.....how long is a peice of string. Guesstimate......100-200 quid

Oh and no flexibles unless MI's specifically state

Fitting a hob with a flex is not allowed you can only use rigid or semi rigid copper
using a flexi is not against the gas regs, (some MI state solid pipe must be used some dont) although not best practice, the main criteria for not using one is what temp surface will come in contact with it, ie the back of an oven, built under gas ovens are fitted with a flexi as the back of the oven is designed to accomodate the flexi, so theoretically a hob under a cupboard is perfectly ok to use a flexi as long as it isnt likely to be disturbed by drawers etc. just no need as it is as easy for a RGI to use copper.
cost is too variable £50-£125

as kirkgas has stated its quite acceptable to use cooker hoses if instructed in the mi's

i'd like to be a fly on the wall at your next inspection

Corgi always frowned upon this and as nearly all Gassafe inspectors came from C£££££i :!:

they can frown all they want, if the MI's dont say you cant then you can  i am a pro and not a DIYer so i always use a fixed pipe for a hob cause i can without any bother, and i NEVER do temp gas work that doesnt comply, but years ago i used to fit kitchens with a joiner mate and would strip the kitchen out on the friday night and fit the hob on a flexi to allow them to use it till the kitchen was fully fitted (with the hob done in copper) all work complied, so it would have stood an inspection on the fri night as well. we are sometimes too scared of CORGI/Gas safe to do what we know is right for fear of them frowning. if it complies then they can spin

I had to change 1 back in the 80's from a hose to rigid as a result of an inspection (my first as an independent engineer) so unless it says in the MI's I would never fit a hose.

As I understand the regs, only appliances that need to be moved i.e slot in cookers etc can have a flex, if a Hob is Fixed permanently into a work top ,then it should be connected with Rigid pipe

Looks like you dont understand the regs then ;)
As the one reg that really matters is MI over rule the regs and always has

Amazing how many used to be out there.
Genuine conversation
