We're all gas engineers / fitters, we almost all do a stint at bg, bit on our own and a bit for other businesses find our niche and stick to it. some of us are useless and some of us can read a manual. To be fair quite soon it seems most independants will be working for bg and bg guys will be working as independants doing foreigners....so why don't we all just be nice to each other?

still cant understand why everyone slags bg including customers and fitters,weve all had a stint there like mentioned and as for customers...well they dont have to buy the boiler through bg do they??everyone makes mistakes etc.just life

Well, it's very clear that BG are trying to recruit contractors on a very large scale. OK the £65/hour rate will not last for ever, but long term the contractors offer a far better return for the shareholders.
bg wouldnt last if they employed shed loads of contractors????????why would a customer pay for a premium service if there getting contractors 2 do the work??they mite as well just ring a contractor in first place??
One reason all things are done as they are --- SHARE HOLDERS They were contracting out in late 70`s and doing 3-5 rad specials . Even I was on their sub-sub contract Had to leave doing proper plumbing because of copper shortage.. 1 customer found out the truth- wasn`t impressed

Bg are nuts on selling upgrades and replacement systems, more than anything else in fact. If bg are going to employ contractors with half a brain that income will stop completely.
Well lets hope that is the case then,more money for me then.
well certainly be more for the guys who are contracting to bg! "yes love bg will be about 6k for that, could give you a free quote now and probably half that.....it would probably be me coming to fit it for bg anyway......"
I subbed to BG years ago and had a couple of jobs where i had quoted privately and then did it through BG. Custs faces were a picture when i turned up
