Hello,

I have a warranty with one of the main manufacturers and it includes a service.

Today an engineer came to carry out said service.

The whole thing lasted 20 minutes including two phone calls with his colleagues. The thing is that he did not measure the water temperature from the tap.

Is this necessary?

I am asking because once I had an independent corgi engineer and he took the temperature of the hot water.

no reason why the temperature should be tested on a service unless uve said uve had a problem with it,service times all depend on make and model of boiler,e.g a worcester greenstar 15ri would not take any longer than 30 mins providing all tests carried out passed ok and no problems

What does the service manual say for servicing procedures. Some things are a must do and others as and when required, depending on make and model.

generally a newish condensing boiler only requires an inspection and check of the co2...this will reveal how clean the heat exchanger is and whether it needs cleaning out...

It can take 20 minuites to clean the Condense trap on some boilers and then there is the Expansion vessel to recharge with air and a combustion test to determine if a strip down is needed ... thats a lot to do in 20 mins and drink the tea you made him?11 ;)

i agree with that.
maybe your agreement may make you feel under the impression its a service but infact only a safety check.
A safety check on most condensing boilers so long as readings are ok you could do in 10mins. if its an open flued appliance it must be stripped down therefore takes longer etc

if you say what make and model of boiler you have ill say if theres any specfic maintainence to be undertaken but on the face of it 20mins could be ok but you should check if your entitled to a service or safety check.

why would you recharge the expansion vessel on a boiler with no fault symptoms of a flat EV during a service, obviously if the servicing instructions tell you too but ive not seen that written for many years.

Some boilers need the vessel recharging once in its life. So every year is a bit OTT dont you think. The guage will tell you if it needs doing.

Most just require a combustion check and trap clean and gas rate. Should take about 20 mins but the equipment needed is quite expensive.

Did you get a piece of paper?./ book signed/ proof of what he did, and was you happy when he left? Who is corgi?

where is seco with his crap crystal ball smiley?

make and model?

Temperature and flow rate of domestic hot water and checking burner modulates when flow rate reduces is part of a good service.

Not a safety issue but you'll know if its doing what it says on the box !

What we had to do when I worked for one of the manufacturers was drop the system pressure to make sure the loss of water pressure switch was working by stopping the boiler from firing up ! !

20 mins is fine for a modern steamer service, as long as its within its c02 % ratings

boiler is a worcester 28si.

Two years ago I had this same bloke and he did not measure temp.

Last year they sent another engineer and the water temp was measured (also the service took 30 mins with no phone calls).

This year the same bloke from two years ago did not measure tap water temp.

This inconsistency made me ask.
