London is no longer English

London is another country, where if you have money, you will be able to insulate yourself from a lot of what goes on. Most of the sensible 'Londoners' have emigrated to the south east or elsewhere.

The first time we went to london was 1986 and, since this was a weekend coach trip, we were in the 'good' bit, the London tourists come to see. Even so, I was taken aback by all the obviously foreign accents. We were there a whole day before we heard our first cockney cab driver. When I mentioned this he replied, with typical cockney wit, "I got out of London at the first whiff of curry".

Now I've got nothing against those foreign workers, all of whom were doing a perfectly good job, but they confirmed the hypothesis of the original post: even back then, London wasn't English. Our more recent excursions into 'the smoke' have come about since our daughter went to Imperial College. This, of course, means that she's insulated from the sleazy side of London life but it didn't take her long to work this out because she declared that "everything South and East of the centre is no-go".

So what of the remaining quarter? Well, we drive through it to get to her flat, we see the burnt out houses dotted along the North Circular and we think "If this is the 'decent' quarter, what in God's name is the rest like?   "

If repatriation is part of it, how many generations back would you go, and would you allow inter-racial couples and/or their hereditary offspring to remain?

Getting bit Nazi now isn't it?

Firstly there is NO SUCH thing as an English or white citizen
Everyone BORN here is BRITISH with the same RIGHTS as
ANYONE ELSE.

White doesn't come into it in the slightest

Dont waste your time fella , it all falls on deaf ears in this forum.

Yeah I know but its a bit like picking a scab..you can't help yourself :D

makes me laugh when people compare a city with around 6 million people with yokelsville

So, you've been to the Bigg Market then. :) :) :) Or maybe you just heard about it. Jasper Carrott didn't make it up; it's all true. They drink too much and wear too little.   It's not a place I go myself (too old now) but I see them - women out in mini skirts and crop tops in the middle of winter - and you can just imagine any one of them saying "It's a bit warm like!"! (Sorry, my keyboard doesn't have Geordie vowels on it. :( :( :( ) You can also get a 'magmaloo' and, if you can eat it all, it's free. :) :) :) (And before you ask, no I haven't.)

The problem with picking at scabs is the scab always comes back, they would be fine if it wasnt for this little detail.

I used to live up in York and there are more pubs in york than there are coat shops.
Middle of winter , freezing sub zero temperatures, 3 in the morning, the streets are literally full of very drunk people in fake tan , t shirts and mini skirts.

I see nothing has changed then. Its a debate, one which will always evoke emotions.

Whos home town is better. Well as so many examples have been given I`ll not add but suffice to say London is. Now I`m born west London now live NW. And I regard south as a dump :D standing joke is we need a passport to go over the Thames. Then again we joke that you need a passport to go past Watford :p

But reality is there is as I said before good and bad everywhere, one of my examples is living in Market Harborough (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_Harborough) for almost a year. Two pubs in the main street, you never went into one of them ever. Not even the Police. Everyone used the pubs outside town, never seen so many drink drivers in my life. Leciester if you wanted decent shops, was play spot the white face. And some say London is bad........yeah right!!!
But I hazard a guess there are nice parts. But you don't see me slaughtering the places willy nilly!
As mentioned before almost everyone I knew in MH worked in London as I did, but I chose a motorbike to commute not a stinking train, thats cost a couple of grand a year to sit and stare at other bored people.
Funny you like the money and food ect London has to offer. Why not work in these tiny towns? Rather than try and pretend you enjoy the daily grind. Then get home and then pretend you like dullsville even more.

What your doing is killing your local area, pricing out the locals in housing and recreational activities. That is when your idylic lifestyle goes tits up!

Not that I have been there, but I heard / read somewhere that Nottingham is supposed to be one of the worst cities in England?
London has lot's going for it, but then again, I guess most major cities in the UK can boast the same. I live in a semi rural area of Kent, but work all over South East London and South East England - trust me, the diversity is huge, as I am guessing, the rest of the country.

I live in Nottingham. Awful place but still a heck of a lot better place than London.

BTW, 20 years ago Nottingham came top as the best place in the UK to live.

Leicester is the worst.

'Tis a small world indeed Mr Alarm! My brother lives near Lutterworth (in Magna Claybrook) to be exact. Coincidences are very strange at times.

Didnt Nottingham have gun crime capital of the country for a bit? Travelled there a lot,as I do to Sheffield and Chesterfield.
Seem to recall a lot of gun crime when a friend was in intensive care at the Royal. ( Noy gun related :D and a good outcome).

Ah Lutterworth, other side of the M1 IIRC.
And now you have a place not a million miles from where I am now!
Indeed a small world.
